Join us for a Sunday Stroll on 30 January at 2pm. Detour Guide Pia Canales shows us around the exhibition The Architecture of Staged Realities, which focuses on the influence that Walt Disney's work has on our thinking and our built environment. Come along with professional observer Pia and discover this wonderful world from her point of view.
Pia Canales is a professional observer of everyday things. Thanks to her hyper-curious attitude, she knows a little about a lot of things, and thanks to her background in art, she knows too much about a few more things. Her favourite things are peanut butter, inter-dimensional aliens, and amateurs.
“I walk in circles, I only walk in circles, I walk in circles for hours, I keep walking in circles, every circle is different.’’
The Architecture of Staged Realities
In The Architecture of Staged Realities the focus is on the influence of Walt Disney on today’s built environment and our sense of identity. While he is praised for his technological innovations and the simplicity and familarity of his storytelling, there is another side to Disney and his empire.
The ingenuity with which he seamlessly entwines fairy tales and reality is accompanied by a compelling but one-sided conception of what the resulting wonderful worlds – and their inhabitants – should look like. Discover in the exhibition how Disney’s ideas continue to influence everyday life.
