Programmes

Families

Families are always welcome at Het Nieuwe Instituut, where there is so much to discover and make together. Why not enjoy the online audio tour especially for families, The Hoodie, or work together in our new installation, Long Live the Future?

Thursday Night Workshops

Our Thursday Night Workshops are a chance to get inside the head of a Rotterdam maker. Creatives including artists, dancers and writers will inspire you with their working methods, then you get to try out their creative techniques for yourself. Each edition is in the hands of a single maker who chooses two others to help devise the evening’s programme.

Schools

At Het Nieuwe Instituut, we challenge schoolchildren to research and design new products and materials. By experimenting, using problem-solving techniques and working together, they learn design skills that are not only relevant for creative fields, but essential for a wide range of studies and professions.

YouthDem

YouthDem projects are made with, not for, young communities. Our partner, Rotterdam collective Concrete Blossom, helps young Rotterdam creatives, including film makers, artists and musicians, to put together their own programmes. For several months, the young makers embark on a series of individual and collective interventions in which they celebrate or question exhibition themes.

Detours

Discover Het Nieuwe Instituut’s exhibitions with our ‘detour guides’, who are all makers with their own field of expertise. These ‘unravelers’ and perception experts show you around based on their own vision as musicians, dancers, architects, actors or artists. Each ‘detour’ is therefore completely different. Join a Sunday Stroll, or enjoy a virtual Sunday Scroll at home, book the Design for the Future curriculum or even schedule your own personal detour.

In compiling the education programme, we draw on the rich range of knowledge and information arising from the various research programmes, exhibition projects and related activities of the institute.
