Join detour guide Bas van der Kruk for a free Sunday Stroll on 17 October at 2pm. Together we will explore the wonderful world of Walt Disney in The Architecture of Staged Realities. The exhibition takes a fresh look at Disney’s influence on our thinking and surroundings. Come along and experience it through Bas’s eyes!

During a detour Bas combines the subject of the exhibition with text and movement. Come along and discover the exhibition with him through movement and philosophy!
“I like to mix different forms of artistic expression to make people look at the world in a slightly different way.”
Bas is a performer, writer, artist and creative advisor. He graduated from dance academy in London, and has a Master’s degree in applied ethics. His favourite things are doing rolls across the floor and the colours of Miami.

While the Sunday Stroll is free, participants need an entrance ticket for Het Nieuwe Instituut. To join the stroll, gather at the reception at 1.55pm, and please mention that you want to join the stroll. Up to 15 guests can join this Sunday Stroll.

In The Architecture of Staged Realities the focus is on the influence of Walt Disney on today’s built society and sense of identity. While he is praised for his technological innovations and the simplicity and familarity of his storytelling, there is another side to Disney and his empire.
The ingenuity with which he seamlessly entwines fairy tales and reality is accompanied by a compelling but one-sided conception of what the resulting wonderful worlds – and their inhabitants – should look like. Discover in this exhibition how Disney’s ideas continue to influence everyday life.
